Both are terrific sources for a real underrated show. One thing I always appreciate here is when folks point out great shows that don't have an obvious pedigree like a break-out number, or an unusual set list, stc. Those shows get plenty of attention on their own, but Hampton 5/1/81 is a great example of a show that "looks" ordinary by set list but plays exceptionally.

May '81 surpassing May '77? Well, I can't quite get over that line, Fenario, but I do see your point. May '81 is one of those "throw a dart, hit a great show" month/years but ultimately for me there's just too much perfection in the '77 performances to cede the gold medal.

Plus, Jerry's just THAT much younger, his voice just that much better, his energy level just that much beyond what he was 4 years after '77 that I think it's almost unfair to expect quite the same level of excellence.
